SAIS @ Shekou SDG Summit
The 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a global plan of action to drive economic prosperity and social well-being while protecting the environment. Countries established the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) — to boost efforts to achieve the goals.
Four of our middle school students presented at the Shekou SDG Summit. This event was one of many opportunities to get our students out in the community representing the school and developing their leadership and presentation skills.
Shenzhen American International School Principal Dr. Laura Flaxman gave a presentation about growth culture, and Assistant Principal Nate Abbott and Director of Instruction Kenny Purser also shared their expertise about Project Based Learning. SAIS was excited to be in the school community to boost the efforts to achieve the global goals.
At SAIS, we place a particular emphasis on developing strong English skills. Instruction is highly differentiated based on the needs of each student. Programs include Reading A-Z, Readers/Writers Workshop, Treasures, and a host of other resources. With a student:teacher ratio of 5 to 1, we can guarantee that your child will receive special attention and service.
Project-based learning (PBL) drives the science and social studies curriculum. Students act like real scientists, historians, and geographers as they learn the content through engaging, hands-on, real world projects.
The SAIS Preparatory Academy program helps students prepare for admission to high-quality high schools through individual project portfolios and targeted test preparation for selective high schools.

What Parents are Saying
“Responsibility is a two way process. I feel that the teachers at SAIS respect the children in the same way they would respect adults; they allow children to speak their thoughts and be taken seriously and not neglect them.”
“I believe strongly in the education that has and is being provided to him. While yes, it is true that I am a teacher there….I have stayed on as a teacher because the school learning environment is a good fit for my son.“
“The school also works as a community to develop responsibility, sensitivity and resourcefulness in the students. It has been a consistent pleasure to work with SAIS where we can send our child with confidence.”
