Half-Days and Student-Led Conferences October 31st-November 1st
We are excited to introduce a new structure here at SAIS. Twice a year, with the first one occurring during the afternoon of October 31st and November 1st, we will schedule Student-Led Conferences. These conferences take the place of traditional parent/teacher conferences, allowing students to take ownership of their learning by sharing their strengths, areas of growth, their goals, and their work with you. Students will be preparing for their presentations, getting their work ready to show you, and assessing themselves using the learning targets for each subject area. Your child’s progress reports will also be available at the conference. Please sign up for a timeslot with your child’s teacher, and for parents of students in grades 5-8, your child’s advisor (Ms. Anel, Mr. Justin, or Mr. Koo.) These are three-way conferences between you, your child, and one of your child’s teachers. Please remember that the student will be leading the conference rather than the teacher: encourage her/him to demonstrate their learning and develop their reflection, leadership, and presentation skills.
Parents are welcome to come join the SAIS Halloween Parade at 8:45 on Thursday, October 31st! If you would like to participate, please drop your child off at 8:30 and then wait in the courtyard between the ELE classrooms and the Shekou Youth Center. At 8:45, students will exit the building near the ELE classrooms to parade in their costumes across the front of the school before coming back to the main entrance for a schoolwide photo at 9:00. Students will then return to the building and resume school-based activities.
